The Denganikotai Swim Pond
Bio Swim Pond • Near Bangalore • Completed March 2022
One of the hardest builds in the Biosphere portfolio - and one of the most rewarding.

What was built
A 1,000-square-foot Bio Swim Pond on a remote property near Denganikotai, with a section of the bog converted into a kids' pool to give the pond a dual purpose - biological filtration on one side, a shallow play area for children on the other.
The build was a genuine test. An existing pond on the site had to be stripped, refilled with soil, and compacted before we could even begin digging for the new swim pond. The site was remote, which made getting materials - and food for the crew - a logistical challenge throughout. And partway through, heavy rainfall did extensive damage to the dig, forcing us to restart it from the beginning.
We restarted, rebuilt, and finished. The pond has run cleanly since.
Why we tell the hard version
Most builders' portfolios only show the frictionless projects. We're including Denganikotai's difficulties because they're the truer story of what building a natural water body on a real site involves - and because the pond came out right despite all of it. A studio worth hiring is one that finishes the hard builds, not just the easy ones.
