Biosphere builds water - in the forms it takes in nature.

Swimming pools without chemistry. Swim ponds with planted edges. Lagoons with white sand and fish you can snorkel with.

Cascades, streams, fountainscapes, decorative ponds, and estate lakes. Built across India, designed and engineered as living ecosystems, by a small studio that takes on a small number of projects each year.

This is the story of how it began, and how it's built today.

It started with a father, a son, and a memory of a village pond.

Some of the best things in life used to be simple. A village pond fringed with banana trees. Cool, clear water you could see your feet through. The sound of a stream running somewhere just out of sight.

No chlorine sting in your eyes. No bleach smell on your skin afterwards.

Just water, the way it was meant to be.

Biosphere Nature Pools was born from that memory - and a father's quiet refusal to let his son grow up without it.

The Story

Our founder, Vikash Kumar M, is a Chartered Accountant by profession and a nature enthusiast at heart. The idea for Biosphere didn't come from a business plan. It came from a question he couldn't shake:

Why should my child learn to swim in chemicals?

He'd grown up swimming in the village ponds near Coimbatore - fringed with greenery, alive with dragonflies, clean in a way no city pool ever felt. Years later, looking for the same experience for his own son, he found only chlorinated tanks.

"I didn't want my son growing up with goggles, red eyes, and smelling like bleach after every swim."

So he built his own. At his farmhouse in Pollachi - no cement, no chemicals, just stone, plants, biology, and water doing what water has always done. The first build worked. The water cleared on its own. Dragonflies arrived without being invited. His son learned to swim in it.

Friends visited and asked for the same. Then their architects. Then resort developers who'd seen something they couldn't find anywhere else in India.

What began as a personal project quietly became a calling.

To bring world-class craft to Indian soil, Vikash studied and learned from the pioneers of the natural-pool movement - engineering traditions from Germany, design language from the United States, build practice from Australia and South America. He brought back not one tradition, but a synthesis: international engineering, retuned for Indian climate, Indian water, and Indian ways of living outdoors.

1. Bio Swim Pools

For those who love the architecture of a modern pool but refuse to swim in chlorine. Structured, tiled, precise — and biologically filtered, with the work that chemicals usually do being done quietly by an integrated bog filter instead.

2. Bio Swim Ponds

Built without cement or steel, structured around natural stone, aquatic plants, and cascading water. The closest you can come to a private wild lake.

3. Lagoon-Style Pools

White-sand floors, water the colour of a tropical reef. The Maldives, brought home.

4. Cascades, Streams & Pondless Waterfalls

Engineered water in motion. The soundtrack of a hill station, dropped into a courtyard or garden.

5. Fountainscapes

Water as sculpture. Lit, fire-integrated, or quietly meditative.

6. Decorative Ponds & Estate Lakes

From a lily pond beside the verandah to multi-acre residential lakes with cascades, landscaped and stocked to attract birds, butterflies, and a kind of stillness that's hard to find elsewhere.

What We Build

We don't build pools. We build water — in all the forms it takes in nature.

What We Build

Biosphere builds water in all the forms it takes in nature - chemical-free swimming pools and ponds, lagoons that hold a living fish population, cascades and streams, fountainscapes, decorative ponds, and estate lakes from quarter-acre upward. Each form has its own page. The full range is on the Services menu.

Who Finds Us

Our clients tend to share a sensibility rather than a budget.

They're building homes they intend to grow old in, and want water their grandchildren can swim in safely. They're developing boutique stays where guests should feel they've arrived somewhere genuinely different. They're architects working on projects where the water feature has to be as considered as the building itself. They're villa and farmhouse owners who've travelled, who've seen what's possible, and who don't want to settle for chlorine because that's what every pool contractor in town offers.

If you've ever stood by a Himalayan stream and wished you could bottle that feeling - you already understand what we do.

The Way We Work

Every Biosphere project is led personally by Vikash, hands-on from the first site walk to the day water meets stone. We don't franchise. We don't subcontract the engineering. We don't template.

Every commission begins with a Project Assessment - a rigorous evaluation of site, water, climate, and ambition before a single line is drawn. We build new ecosystems only; we don't retrofit chlorinated pools, and we don't convert ponds that weren't engineered for swimming. The standards a living water body requires can't be promised on top of someone else's concrete.

What you get instead is a water body designed for your land, your climate, and your way of living - engineered with international precision, planted with Indian sensibility, and built to last decades rather than seasons.
